Ell Training Courses & What They Involve
These are qualifications that people require to improve employment chances and gain access into higher education, such as University. The most popular functional skills are Maths and English, as these level 2 qualifications are mandatory for most jobs and University courses.
These qualifications are equivalents to GCSE level 4 or a C grade in the old grading system.
We help people of all ages and abilities to achieve their functional skills in Maths and English for both entry and level 1 and level 2.
Each level is up to 12 weeks long and once you finish the course you will need to sit an exam. The exam is compulsory and consists of three parts: reading comprehension, writing and listening and speaking.
Depending on your background and current position you may be eligible for a funded functional skills course. We have helped thousands of learners access funded courses, so free to them.
Functional Skills English and Math
What do you learn at Level 1 and Level 2
Level 1 and 2 courses are online tutor led classes and can be up to 14 weeks long. You will need to sit a compulsory exam at one of our centres at the end of the course. The English exam consists of three parts including reading and comprehension, writing and speaking and listening. Courses are available at various levels, so you can start from the level that is right for you. You will complete a learning assessment before you start to identify the level for you.
Do Universities accept level 2 functional skills?
Yes, the majority of universities accept the level 2 as a GCSE equivalent that enables you to gain entry to courses such as teaching, nursing, midwifery and many more.
All Functional Skill courses are accredited so you receive recognised qualifications and certificates when you finish.

We offer Level 2 and 3 Diploma Nails and Beauty Courses. Our courses let learners gain knowledge and skills relating to nails or beauty therapy with or without prior knowledge. Our learners will expand their scope of technical skills for employment as a nail or beauty therapist, whilst learning how to plan, prepare, and deliver Level 3 nail and beauty treatments to a high standard safely and correctly, in accordance with health and safety regulations and legislation.
Our Fast Track Courses are delivered in up to 22 weeks, with learners attending 2 days a week, meaning that you will be qualified in a shorter space of time, completing the same learning that normally takes 1 year to complete at a college. This allows you to start working in the industry sooner. Courses are be delivered during the daytime at our city centre office, but some evening courses are also available. We enrol on an ongoing basis with new classes starting throughout the year. Courses are funded via Student Finance. All courses are flexible to work around your needs and so are available during weekdays, evenings and weekends. If English is not your first language and you want to start at the very beginning then ESOL will help you. We have a range of ESOL courses at centres across the city where you can practise speaking, listening reading and writing skills and learn the language you will need to interact with your local community and to access training and job opportunities.
